Very cool VGM piece with DnB beats. There was a lot of variation and kept me interested throughout the whole piece.

Little nitpick:

There was one synth that I didn't like which is the saw-synth at 1:18. It has a bit too much on the high frequencies.

Overall I'd suggest lowpass filtering any high frequencies you don't need in the track, so it sounds less muddy in the highs. It will make the whole track sound rounder and a bit more polished, I think.

Still a pretty cool piece. I think it would fit right in an intense battle sequence.

endKmusic responds:

Hey!
Yeah, that ravy synth. I did cut / lower the highs though - sounded even more harsh by default.
Thanks for the review and suggestions!
Glad you dig it. ;D

Hmm ... Idk how I feel about the meme title...

The track is pretty cool!

it does sound a bit like the whole track is just waaay too loud for my taste. I would have a bit more dynamic range imo, at the end it just makes my ears tired.

Composition-wise, there's some very cool arps in your piece. Some good and memorable melodies, which is what you want with a chiptune-inspired track.

I really like that breakdown with the breakbeat btw.. It really sticks with you. Makes me wish that the whole track was laid-back like that. However, those punchy drums really bring a lot of energy to the track, which I also like.

Overall, I like the track!

Great work here. You really know how to make a song interesting in terms of instrumentation.
The piece managed to keep me interested throughout the whole 2:17 of it. I was expecting that the beat would go on after the little pattern you've introduced. What was your reason for just playing that once? It does make it more interesting..

Did you use any compression on the whole song btw? It sounds a bit too compressed at some points, when the recorder-like instrument kicks in. I think the song would sound better without the compression.

Very cool. I like it when people mix VGM with electronic music. Sounds like something that could be used in a futuristic-themed Sonic game.

I think the song could have benefitted from more silent moments, because it's a bit too much to listen to a 3 min song on full volume and it takes away a bit from it's power.
I also hear a bit of very high frequencies poking out, which are a bit unpleasant. I think the mix would sound a bit more clean if you filter those frequencies out, where you don't need them.

Silly and cute would definitely describe this :)
I think this would work very well in a game like Super Mario Maker.
You've really managed to capture that post-NGC/Wii Mario sound, if you get what I'm saying.

Personally I think there's a bit too much reverb on it, I think the acapella would sound more close and human without the big space.

Still, good work!

Bertn1991 responds:

Why thank you, sir. I appreciate honest feedback. Glad you enjoyed it overall <3

Also, I do get what you're saying. Like those parts in Super Mario Sunshine without F.L.U.D.D. :)

Impressive... The guitar sounds quite convincing!
What did you use for that? RealStrat? Shreddage? RealEight?
Very epic composition. This really needs a videoclip.

Skybrid responds:

I used Shreddage II. Thank you!

I think you did a wonderful job in making the two styles work together.
It sounds very unique and interesting.

Also, Pendulum samples?? ;-)

Quarl responds:

Half of the snare drum is made up of two snare drums from a Pendulum sample folder. That's it though. The other two layers came from Reasons built in sound bank. You have a ridiculously good ear if you can hear that.

The instruments that don't rely on drum samples are all Reason 10 synths and Orkester sound banks. Honestly, I do appreciate getting compared to Pendulum. I love listening to Rob Swire from time to time <3 <3

You're good at this

I usually don't listen to house (unless it's early 90s diva house which has a soft-spot for me)
But this was pretty dope. I like the sounddesign.

It does sound a bit muddy and overcompressed at some points. I also felt that at some points you could have introduced something like a B-section, with a different melody.

Pretty good stuff. Ga zo door

RobinvanDommelen responds:

This project dates from the start of my music, therefor I didn't know much about mixing and mastering, (I still don't, but I keep learning).
Anyways, I'm glad you like it :)

Pretty cool. I like the 909-ish snare.
Nice dark and haunting athmosphere.
It could maybe use a bit of variation in terms of instrumenation, maybe a lead line or something, dunno. It should still work very well in a video, animation or game.

Nice work!

Alyctro responds:

Thanks, i thought the same but i couldn't squeeze anything else inside.
